A good SFLOW, Netfow, Jflow collector

Postby admin » Sat Mar 24, 2012 7:12 am

I have looked at a few flow collectors and none of them stack up to Inmon's Traffic Sentinel ( After setting up the network area's by IP address it is very easy to administer. When deploying a new network device, simply add the SFLOW configuration to it. When the Traffic Sentinel server starts receiving the SFLOW data, it automatically adds the device to itself.

To add a NetFlow device, there is a text file that needs to receive the device's IP address. This is manual and could be time consuming.

Traffic Sentinel will show end to end data flows. It will tell you every switch the flow entered and exited and on what ports. It takes the pain out of jumping from device to device in the management tool to see if a link is at high utilization or errors.

The user interface is very easy to navigate. If an interface is taking errors or high broadcasts etc.., the home page will show it and with in a few clicks you will know what interface on what device is having that issue.

Reporting is very detailed and flexible.

I highly recommend using Traffic Sentinel to collect flow information. Compared to other flow collectors, Traffic Sentinel is easy to use, flexible and inexpensive.

What flow collectors do you recommend?
