Clients dropping after WLC 7.0.116.0 to 7.3.112.0

Postby admin » Tue May 07, 2013 3:09 pm

After upgrading my Cisco 5508 Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) from 7.0.116.0 to 7.3.112.0 I found that my Motorola MC9090 units would drop off of the network. After the client is idle for about 10 minutes, the end user has to log back in to their terminal emulation software.

In my debugs, I do get this EAPOL-Key error

*dot1xMsgTask: <date and MAC removed> Retransmit 1 of EAPOL-Key M5 (length 131) for mobile <MAC removed>
*dot1xMsgTask: <date and MAC removed> Retransmit 2 of EAPOL-Key M5 (length 131) for mobile <MAC removed>

Has anybody else experience this issue?

We were able to resolve this issue by updating all of the software on the MC9090's. Did a factory default on the OS, then upgraded it. Upgraded to the latest version of the software we were using. Shut off the power saving features. We found that the new version of the telnet client had power settings that would control the power on the MC9090.

We also changed some settings on the Wireless controllers.
- On the WLAN
-- Disable Aironet IE
-- DTIM Period to 2
-- Disable Client Load Balancing and Band Select
- User Idle Timeout to 43200 Seconds

Did this solve your problems? If not, what did you do to keep your clients from dropping?
