Cisco ASA Cannot enable SSH Version 2

Postby admin » Mon Jul 30, 2012 9:00 am

If your Cisco ASA cannot do SSH version 2, you need the VPN-3DES-AES license. This is a free license.

Here is how to get the free license

1. Go go http://www.cisco.com/go/license (You will need a CCO Login to get there)
2. Click on "GET NEW" on the top menu
3. Click on "IPS, Crypto, Other Licenses"
4. Click on "Security Products"
5. Click on "Cisco ASA 3DES/AES License"
6. The next page you will need to enter the serial number of the ASA, then click "next".
7. The next page you will need to confirm your email address, Check the box next to "I agree with the Terms of the License" (Only do this if you agree with the license), then click "Get License".

From there, Cisco will email you the key.

After you get the key, add it to your ASA with the following command. This may not work on all models and software.

activation-key <ENTER THE LICENSE KEY FROM THE EMAIL>

Don't forget to enable SSH Version 2 on your ASA.

Here is the command to enable SSH Version 2 on your Cisco ASA

ssh version 2
